Discovery Educator :: Amy Welty-Bernard
Amy Welty-Bernard is a Ph.D. candidate in soil microbiology at Northern Arizona University, and has her M.A. and B.S. in geology. She is a past recipient of an NSF IGERT award which launched her into development of a ecology-based programs for elementary students. Before submersing herself in science, Amy obtained her B.A. in French literature, studied physical theater in Paris, France through a Fulbright grant, and performed 15 years with the MIMUS: A classical mime troupe in St. Petersburg, FL. She currently performs with The Isolated Incident Performance Group, a non-profit dance/theatrical group in Flagstaff, which merges the talents of dancers, actors and muscians in orginal productions. Because of her background, she has an avid interest in integrating science and the arts. Her six-year old daughter serves as the guinea pig for her creative and scientific endeavors and frequently trails after her mom both at the theater and during field work.
