Adventure and Education for Youths of All Ages!
Registration for 2008 programs opens April 15 for MNA Members, April
16 for nonmembers
Registrations are accepted by email or phone. Please contact the
Discovery Program Registrar, Cathleen Patterson, at extension 241 to
register. Contact Rosemary Logan, Youth Program Coordinator at
extension 222 for all other inquiries.
The Museum of Northern Arizona’s
Discovery Program is a gateway into the wonders of the Colorado
Plateau. Fifty-four classes are a summer’s worth of creative and
meaningful exploration. Taught by experienced educators, these
programs offer an exciting range of hands-on learning opportunities
about the region’s traditions of fine arts, natural sciences, Native
cultures, and ecology.

Parents and Kids Night Out |
New for 2008!
Summer pilot series on Wednesdays from 6-8 p.m. Parents enjoy
making hands-on art projects while children ages 4-13 are
engaged in their own learning experiences next door.

Explorers & Explorers II |
The
wonders of the Colorado Plateau are revealed through fun and
educational activities focusing on Native cultures, prehistoric
people, dinosaurs, ice age mammals, insects, and more. Explorers
is for 3-5 year old children, Explorers II is for 6-8 year old
children.

Ages 4-5 |
Volcanoes, dinosaurs, spiders, worms, prairie dogs, and the
circle of life on the Colorado Plateau. Great activities
for kids - and parents!

|
Ages 6-8 |
Storytelling and hands-on activities to explore the arts,
geology and early peoples of the Colorado Plateau. Sculpt
with clay, relive life as a pioneer,
create great stuff from your own hand-dyed textiles, learn to
"listen" to rocks –
and so much more!

Ages 9-13 |
Become a sculptor or photographer, collect fascinating insects,
learn ancient astronomy uses, explore Elden Pueblo, or get out
onto the Colorado Plateau through Summer Among the Peaks!

Ages 10-15 |
Field camps get you out on the Colorado
Plateau, learning practical scientific field techniques in the
middle of some of the world's greatest landscapes.

|
Ages 15-18 |
Volunteer trips presented by MNA and Grand
Canyon Trust provide you the opportunity to experience
incredible scenery while you work on real scientific projects.

Discovery Child Care
Discovery offers child care
before its programs from 8–9 a.m. Child care is limited to a maximum
of 20 kids. The cost is $25 per week. Games and activities are
provided. Preregistration is required for child care.

when you register!
Reservations
2008 registration opens April 15 for
Members and April 16 for non-members. You may renew your
membership or become a member for the first time in order to qualify
for registration on April 15. For reservations or additional
information, contact the Discovery Office at 928/774-5213, ext. 241 or
Discovery@mna.mus.az.us. Reservations are confirmed with American
Express, Visa, Discover, or MasterCard. Personal checks are accepted
with a credit card hold. Confirmations are mailed upon receipt of full
payment. Please no faxes.

Scholarships are available and are awarded based
on financial need and student interest. See

Junior Counselors
The Museum of Northern Arizona
will be offering the Junior Counselor program for the fourth summer in
a row. The Junior Counselor Program is for youth ages 13–18 interested
in volunteering with the summer Discovery Program. Training is
provided before camp, and this year a special backpacking volunteer
trip at no cost is offered June 9–13 for Junior Counselors who
volunteer for three weeks or more.
Junior Counselors will be assigned classes, based upon personal
interest and program needs. Junior Counselors of a younger age will
assist with programs for 4–5 or 6–8 year olds, allowing them to serve
as mentors.
Applications will be accepted beginning April 21 and until all
positions are filled. Interviews for these positions will begin April

Cancellation
Policy
Cancellations must be received in writing by
mail, fax, or e-mail. If notice of cancellation is received 21 days
prior to the program start date, a refund less a $25 administrative
fee (per program/per reservation) will be issued. If notice is
received after 21 days prior to the program start date, a refund less
a $25 administrative fee (per program/per reservation) will be issued,
only if the reservation is filled. If the Museum cancels a program due
to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment, a full refund will be
issued.
Program Information
To assure a quality learning environment, there
is a maximum of fifteen participants and a minimum of two staff in
every program. Participants must bring a snack, water bottle, sun hat,
sunscreen, daypack and weather/class appropriate clothing and footwear
(no open toe shoes). Full day programs require participants to also
bring lunch. Letters confirming specifics will be mailed to
participants prior to each program.
The Museum of Northern Arizona is a
private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) educational organization.
