Summer Pilot Series - New for 2008!
Parents enjoy making hands-on art
projects, while children ages 4–13 are engaged in their own learning
experiences next door.
Non-parents also welcome!
Wednesdays, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
$30 per adult member, $35 per adult nonmember
$20 per child

June 18 |
Wool Spinning
Interested in learning how to make your own yarn? Adults make a
spindle and learn to spin in this hands-on workshop. Children
learn about weaving in the Navajo tradition through stories and
carding wool.

June 25 |
Native Plant Dying
Learn how to identify native dye plants, and how to dye silk and
wool. A silk scarf and one skein of Navajo wool for dyeing will be
provided to each adult participant. Children are provided a white
t-shirt to tie-dye with vegetable dyes.

July 9 |
Paper Making with Native Plants
Adults make beautiful papers using recycled paper, local plant
fibers, and
seeds. Create gift cards, and book marks that the recipient can
plant and grow. Children create handmade paper ornaments.

July 16 |
Drawing from Nature
Bring nature to life on paper with Flagstaff’s talented wildlife
artist and
biologist Zack Zdinak. Adults sketch natural objects and refine
those
sketches into a finished still life drawing. Children make their
own nature
sketches through explorations in the garden.

July 23 |
Linoleum Block Carving and Printing
Using the Colorado Plateau as inspiration for design, adults
transform an
original design into a linoleum block print. Learn the basics of
carving and block printing by creating prints, notecards, and
paper art items. Children make potato and sponge stamps to create
cards and gift wrap.

July 30 |
Pioneer Pastimes for Parents
Learn how to make candles and soaps just like the early pioneers
did. Experiment with different wax-dipping techniques, and floral
and herbal scents for soaps. Children will learn how to play and
make their own pioneer games and dip their own candles, as well.

August 6 |
Colorado Plateau Collage
Adults create a 12" x 12" mixed media art piece suitable for
framing or
inserting into a scrap-book. Collage supplies include but are not
limited to wool, native plants, paper made from native plants,
linoleum block prints (or scraps), favorite found objects, and fun
fibers. Children make tissue paper collage candle votives.
