| Emory Sekaquaptewa is an appellate judge on the Hopi Tribal Court. During his long tenure with the Bureau of Applied Research in Anthropology at the University of Arizona he produced, with linguist Kenneth Hill and other Hopi, the Hopi Dictionary, A Hopi-English Dictionary of the Third Mesa Hopi Dialect. In conjunction with this effort, he has developed programs and written guides for teaching the Hopi language to all grade levels in the Hopi schools as well as for training new teachers in the reading, writing and speaking of the Hopi language. He recently received a National Endowment for the Humanities grant for the transcription and translation of Hopi ritual songs in the collections of the Library of Congress and the Archives of Traditional Music, Indiana University. |
