February 9, 2006, Pearson Hall

Attendees: Allan Affeldt, Susie Garretson, Miguel Vasquez, Robert Breunig, Sat Best, Dave Gillette, Marlene Lloyd

The meeting convened at 2:00 pm.

The agenda was to review the Board/Staff Institutional Planning Retreat’s revised Key Issue Committee Report. There were minor changes made to the original Key Issues.

Robert gave a presentation on prioritizing MNA’s Institutional Planning Key Issues. Each one of the priorities listed below will need to have a timeline, short-term planning of 2-5 years, in which to accomplish them. The Institutional priorities presented were:

1. Achieve AAM Accreditation.
2. Financial Stability - (Building Endowments, Maintaining Budget, Reducing Debt, Increase Income, Paid Development Director, Compensation addressed)
3. Building – Complete Master Plan, successfully complete Collections Building, and move Collections to new building.
4. Completing Interpretive Plan – Programming, Exhibits, and Dynamic short-term Exhibits with long-term Exhibits.
5. Complete funding for Danson Chair; Curator of Ecology/Biology position
6. Address deferred maintenance
7. Fire evacuation plan for the Museum people and objects

Discussion followed regarding the top seven priorities. It was agreed by all present that these were definitely all priorities. There was some discussion to add to the priority list after everyone had been given more time to contemplate the Key Issues.

Robert said that we would like to have a final draft of the accreditation to present to the Board Members at the August Board Meeting, as we have to turn in the Institutional Planning priorities with the accreditation packet into AAM by September 26, 2006.

Discussion began regarding presenting the Institutional Planning Committee’s priorities to the general public to obtain their feedback. A meeting time of Sunday, March 12 in the afternoon was a date and time set aside to present the key issues. The Branigar Auditorium has been reserved for the meeting.

The next two IPC Meetings will be February 23 and March 9, 2:00-3:00 pm in Pearson.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:15 pm.
